Summer Term - Week 3

Hello Aire Class.

I hope you are all still managing to have fun now that the sunshine has left us for a little while. I have seen some fantastic home learning this week. It really puts a smile on my face seeing what you having been doing, and I have loved sharing it through this Blog.  I’ve had some real laugh out loud moments this week looking at what some of you have been up to.   I hope you enjoy looking at what your friends have been doing as much as I do!

This weeks tasks are below.

Weekly Maths Tasks (plus Numberblocks)

Week 2 - Reception
 - Summer week 3 - The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Week 2 - Year 1 - please scroll down to Week 1 - weight and mass.

Please feel free to access activities from both year groups.

Receptions maths is linked to The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Even if you are familiar with the story it’s worth watching this wonderful animated film of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, purely for the music. It’s fantastic to watch and listen to. You could get so much out of this just discussing how the music helps to tell the story, how it makes you feel, and what instruments you can hear.  The children will amaze you their knowledge, as they have spent a lot of time working on this with Mrs Bramley during their music sessions.

Don’t forget to keep working on your Hit the Button challenge.

Weekly English tasks (plus daily reading and phonics session) This can be done in any order.

Daily Read, write inc session. Link to daily lesson These run daily on YouTube.

Talk for writing - Reception Booklet

Please continue with this 2 week unit.  If you feel you need some more to do, why not make your own version  of the Very Hungry Caterpillar story to link with our maths.  You could even do an alternative version, using a different animal, or food types. I would love to see these.

Don’t forget Read, write inc are running their new Story time with Nick, with new stories every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Spelling activities:

Please learn to spell and write the following words. You could do this by:
  • writing on paper (look, cover, write, check)
  • outside using chalk - jump on each letter as you sound out and blend the word
  •  in the bath with foam letters
  •  in shaving foam or sand
  •  by writing the letters on pebbles and ordering them correctly
  •  words written on card and cut up into pieces to make a word jigsaws.
  1. is
  2. put
  3. pull
  4. full
  5. push
Here’s a trickier set if these are too easy for your child.

  1. said
  2. so
  3. do
  4. one
  5. once

Reading comprehension - VE Day. There are three level of the same comprehension here. I would use level one for Reception/year 1. Encourage your child to read any words they can, then help them to use their phonics to sound out unfamiliar ones. Then work through the first set of questions, showing them how to look back in the text to find the answers.

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

Aire Class Ongoing Task

While we are in Lock down it would be a lovely idea to create a Time capsule containing memories of our special time spent with our families. This would be an ongoing project for the whole family.

Be as creative as you can be!

Here is a link to an handy article about how to make a Covid19 Time capsule with your child

This link takes you to a booklet your child can complete to capture their memories.
There is also a link for parents to complete their own booklet as well!

Please feel free to share your wonderful learning with me. You can either email pictures to me at:
mrssmith@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk, add comments to this Blog, or if you are in Reception add your learning to Tapestry
