Wider Curriculum tasks

Geography - Map knowledge

Last term we looked at our own environment around school. We started with our classroom, working out to our school, its grounds and the wider community. We made simple maps and plans of the area. We were very lucky to have a visit from Ben a drone pilot who helped us to understand how Ariel photographs work. He brought his drone to our school and explained how it worked, and then took photographs of Carlton and our school grounds.

Next I would like us to start looking wider than Carlton and begin to develop our Map knowledge.

This week I would like you to look at as many different types of maps of the United Kingdom as you can.  This could be online versions such as Google Maps or Google Earth, any maps or atlases you have at home. Do you have a globe?

Can you locate Carlton?

Science - Everday materials

This half term we are going to start looking at everyday materials.

Click this link to print this sheet.

DT - As many of you are being so helpful at home and enjoying baking with your parents I thought it would be nice to links this weeks DT to food.

Did you know that in Japan there is a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed restaurant?

This week I would like you design your very own caterpillar themed treat. You will need to research, design, make and evaluate.

You could print out or research different design ideas, think about the types of fruits or vegetables you would plan to use and why, and draw your design on paper. Once you have made your caterpillar can you evaluate it? What worked well, what might you change next time?

Here's a few ideas I found.

This one is from the themed restaurant.

Picture News  This weeks picture news looks at - Who are the people you are proud of?

This week Harry and his family decorated our school gates to say thank you to everyone at Carlton School. They are proud of our school community.

New Aire Class Ongoing Task

We are all very lucky to live in such a nice community.  For our new ongoing project I would like you
to think about the village that you live in. What are the landmarks in your village?  Can you draw a plan.

We have lots of interesting churches, shops, schools, Drax power station, and houses including Carlton towers. Choose a landmark that interests or is special to you. What do you know about it?
Why is it special to you? When was it built? Can you draw it? Could you make a model of it using boxes or Lego?

Please feel free to share your wonderful learning with me. You can either email pictures to me at:
mrssmith@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk, add comments to this Blog, or if you are in Reception add your learning to Tapestry

Home learning with Louis

Louis has loved exploring his kinetic sand.
This is what it looked like when he had finished!

Louis has had a fantastic week of home learning.
His progress with his maths is amazing to see!

Louis has been working hard on his number bonds. First of all he learnt them to ten but then moved into to 20.

He has even mastered his 2 times table.

Louis has been learning about 2D shapes
through using play dough.
Louis knew the alphabet song when he started school
last September. He used to to sing it all of the time.

Happy half term holiday

Next week is the half term holiday.  We would like you to have a little rest from your wonderful home learning and enjoy your week off.

Please keep reading and sharing stories with your families, but make sure you spend time doing everything you love to do.

I would love to see photographs of you doing the things you like to do best, and will share these on our Blog after the holiday.

How about some random acts of kindness?  Your family would love this ❤️

Home learning with Stanley

Stanley has had a very busy week home learning. He has completed a wide variety of activities with a brilliant phonics game idea I absolutely love!
Stanley’s mum wrote his new sounds on eggshells.
If Stanley read it correctly he could hit it with his
wooden spoon. He loved this activity.
What a fantastic engaging activity!
Stanley really enjoyed making pizza.

Stanley enjoyed the Go Jetters reading comprehension.
Fun in the sun!
Stanley designed his own Lego creations this week.
Stanley has been writing on our special lines this week.
Stanley has a real flare for numbers!
Here he is working on his number bonds to 20 😊

They have a wide range including Numberblocks, Alphablocks, activity cards, lots of lovely Orchard games, arts and craft resources, sticker books, Numberblock and Alphablock learning programmes, sticker packs, books, Lego trading cards and some very cute collectible rubbers.

Home learning with Harry - Reception

Harry has been working incredibly hard on his writing over the last few weeks.
His handwriting has really improved and he is trying very hard to sit his letters correctly on the lines
Here’s his work about his family.
Some super writing about his extended family.
Harry and Oliver exploring capacity in the sunshine.

Harry is really making progress with his number recognition.
Harry added numbers to his Superworm.
Harry has been exploring measure today.
Watch out!
If you stay still he will measure you!

Home learning with Thomas

Thomas has been very busy again this week finishing off on-going projects before the holidays start.
Thomas has completed his Talk4Writing booklet about
Sidney the spider.
Here is his amazing writing about the spider.
Thomas should be so proud of this writing.
When he started school and was asked if he
would like to come and write he would
politely say “No thank you!” and look at him now!
I love how Thomas used real leaves to create his
Family tree. I love how clear it is to follow.

Thomas enjoyed completing his Go Jetters reading comprehension.

As well as working on the year one maths this week
Thomas has also looked at repeating patterns using his Numberblocks.

Thomas very sensibly sat in the shade in his garden
this week to complete his bird hunt.
He was amazed at how many birds he saw if he sat
still for a minute.  He told me that there is an owl
near their garden that he can hear at night.

Can you solve this Picasso portrait mystery?

Thomas watched the video I shared about Pablo Picasso and created his own interpretation of it.

Who do you think the original face belonged to?

We can’t wait to hear who you think it might be!
