Yesterday, we wrote sentences to describe the Troll. Using adjectives (describing words) and similes (highlight similarities between two things) write sentences to describe Baby Billy Goat, Middle-sized Billy Goat and Big Billy Goat.

Don't forget... Capital letters, finger spaces and full stops!

PE
Space: The area around a person that does not have anything else in it.

Warm up: Put on some music and get warm! We warm up because it raises our heart rate, warms up our muscles so that it is easier to move and stops us from hurting ourselves. 

Play some (sad) music and allow your child to have creative control and do their own dance to the music. What did the music made you feel like?

Try to create your own dance and use all of the space around you (e.g. across the room, high and low).

Using descriptive language (adjectives and similes).
Adjectives are describing words: Under the bridge lived a mean, green Troll.
Similes are used to highlight similarities between two things: The Troll was as green as the grass.

Create a bank of descriptive language. Think about the characters in our text. We have, Baby Billy Goat, Middle-sized Billy Goat, Big Billy Goat and the Troll.

Can you write a sentence (or more) that describes the Troll.

Science
Object – Anything that can be seen or touched that is not alive.
Material – Anything used for building or making something else. 

Distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made.
Can you label objects in your home and the materials they are made from. Look for materials such as: wood, glass, plastic, water, metal and rock.
Can you create a table like the one above to record your findings?
Sometimes an object is made from one or more materials. Can you spot them all?

Which place of worship is sacred for Muslims?
Have you been to a mosque?

Research and label this mosque using the following words:
Prayer mat, Qubba (dome structure), Mihrab (recess to indicate the direction of Mecca), washroom, Crescent moon and star, a Qur'an (holy book) and Imam.

  • Muslims go to mosque to pray and services are held every day. The most important weekly service is held on a Friday.
  • Many Muslims believe that praying with other Muslims can make you feel part of a family.
  • Inside a mosque, there is often a school where people can learn the Arabic language. This is the language that the Muslim holy book, the Qur'an, is written in.
  • Festivals, weddings and funerals can take place in mosques too.
Showing respect:
  • Wash feet, hands, nose, mouth, throat, ears, arms (up to elbow) before entering. 
  • Take off your shoes before entering
  • Women and men worship separately
PE
Travelling: Using your feet and body to move across a space.

Warm up: do this to some music and explain the importance of this to the children! We warm up because it raises our heart rate, warms up our muscles so that it is easier to move and stops us from hurting ourselves.

Which place of worship is sacred for Jewish people?
Have you been to a synagogue? Research synagogues. What do they look like?
  • People go to the synagogue to worship but also to study. Many synagogues are also community centres where local Jewish people can meet and take part in different activities and events..
  • A synagogue is a house of prayer where Jewish people can get together to feel closer to God, and each other.  
  • The services are led by a rabbi or a worshipper. 
Showing respect: 
  • During the service everyone, except women who aren’t married, must wear a hat to show respect to God; this is called a kippah.
  • Adult men wear a prayer shawl for morning prayer which has fringes along the edge to remind the worshipper to follow God’s way.
  • Men and women sit separately in the synagogue.
  • Once the Ark is open, nobody must enter or leave the room as a sign of respect.
Research and label this synagogue using the following words:

Why might one person’s safe place be different to someone else?
